General school
School has been pretty good so far, we do not have internet connection in our rooms, so we have to go to the library to get online which has been a bit of a shock to me, I'm kind of addicted to the internet. But I'm starting to get used to not having it all the time, maybe I'll get my essays done faster without IMing people all the time hmm. Also there isn't a bookstore here where they have all the books you need you have to go to outside bookstores to find your books, also a difference from home. The people here are a lot nicer than in the US they don't get angry if you bump into them or mess something up or whatever, they just are all so calm and collected. Also, the people dress so nicely I feel a bit out of place with that. Girls don't leave the house without drying their hair and doing their makeup and they think it's appalling that we'd leave the house in sweatpants or a sweatshirt or with wet hair. I guess they're in for a rude awakening from the americans haha. The place I'm living is cute, I have my own room which has a sink (kind of weird, but convenient so no one watches while you brush your teeth or wash your face!) They provided the international students with a duvet, a pillow, and a bottom sheet and a pot, a pan, a plate, a mug, a bowl, a knife/fork/spoon which I thought was extremeley generous of them. My housemates are all british and this is their first year at the university so they are 2 years younger than me. There are 3 girls and 2 boys - me, Josie, Jenny, Liam and Will. They're all very nice and we've been getting along well. We are all a bit messy so the kitchen never really gets fully cleaned a lot of the time but it's alright. There's one toliet in one room and then the shower is in it's own room too so thats nice, you can see go to the toliet when someone is showering. I've been having to make all of my own food and go to the grocery store to do food shopping and all that which has been different too, I'm used to the dining hall at union with all the fully prepared food. I'll probably end up losing a bit of weight if I keep eating like I am now...not very much because it's a hassle to make food. The place I'm living is about 10-15 minutes away from the main campus so I can't just roll out of bed and go to class haha, oh well. Another fun fact about people from England - they like to drink, a lot! The people here go out every single night to the pubs and drink a ton, I'm not sure how their bank accounts can handle it because mine sure cannot. Hopefully they find other activities to do because I'd rather have some movie nights or game nights. Maybe I just haven't found the right people yet. Oh! and you know how in the US we say "how are you?" as a general greeting? well here they say "are you alright?" which at first was kind of weird becayse I kept thinking oh maybe I don't seem like I'm okay man do I really look that bad?" haha. But figured that out eventually. Wells thats all I have to say really about a general school entry. I'll have more details some other time when I have more time like about classes and the people and different things I've been doing throughout york. And throughout this entry are pictures of my room at school and also of the taco dinner the boys prepared for us the other night (which was really yummy!) The last entry just had pictures of manchester :)
